There’s no shortage of chocolate chip pumpkin bread recipes on the internet. Orange-hued loaves of quick bread are practically a tradition in the fall when all things pumpkin are the rage.
But there is something delicious about breaking with tradition. And that’s exactly what we’re going to do here.
Instead of a classic quick bread, we’ll make a gorgeous loaf of yeasted pumpkin bread braided like challah, then twisted into a spiral and baked until golden. The bread's crust is slightly chewy, while the inside is light, fluffy, and studded with chocolate chips.
Eating this loaf is especially decadent when it’s warm from the oven and the chocolate is all melty — then you get to lick chocolate off your fingers between tender bites of bread. Sounds heavenly, doesn’t it?
Here’s a quick look at a loaf I made this past weekend for one of our D&D sessions. I hope you don’t mind my sharing these quick, informal clips when I make something scrumptious but don’t have time to do a full video!
p.s. If you’ve never braided dough before, I included step-by-step photos below. You can also see a detailed how-to video in my honey-vanilla challah post.
