This is actually true! When our 3 kids were still living at home, we would do an annual movie marathon over the holiday break. We would pick a different series of films each year. LOTR, Chronicles of Narnia, Star Trek, The Thin Man, and the Godfather series. And of course we did the entire Star Wars series in time sequence (not the order they were made, you probably know there are differing opinions on the order they "should" be watched, lol). As a whole, there are some universal truths in every one of these series. It's amazing that when your eyes and ears are open, it appears.
So many good things in this issue! I loved every single word. I heard a philosophy professor say that some people are just naturally geared towards stoicism. I think he’s right - unless I’m in a really dark place, re-framing my situation and shifting my perspective comes somewhat easily to me. The trick is remembering to do it and your words are an inspiring reminder that perspective is everything.
I watched the documentary about Martha back to back with the one about Tayler Swift and immediately called my girls to tell them to do the same thing because both are reminders that we, as women, are fucking resilient.
I completely relate to everything you said here. Sometimes remembering to direct our focus can be the most challenging part! I'm happy my story resonated with you.
And 100% about women being so incredibly resilient. I'll never understand why we are called the "weaker sex." Yes, we might not be as mighty in an arm wrestling contest, but so many women persevere through challenges that would break others.
Ha, I wasn't sure everyone would know what a VHS tape was! Remember the CD burning days? Or listening to the radio station with a blank tape cassette and your finger ready to hit the "record" button when you favorite song came on?
Such a good reminder about our focus determining our reality!
There is a lot of wisdom in Star Wars! ;)

Love this! What a wonderful memory. Star Wars in sequence is both a commitment and an achievement. :)
We do something similar on New Years, usually LOTR. If you time it just right, Theoden says “and so it begins” at the stroke of midnight.
Oh that’s so good! And just to clarify, we watched over a number of days, not back to back with no sleep 😂
Same here, except for New Years. :)
Honestly, I’m grateful for you. That you share what you know and feel and think, and you do it so graciously. 💕
Aw thank you. That is such a kind thing to say! So glad to see you back on Substack!
